Back at the Grind in WEB Development & Design

Table of Contents

Description: This is a post about all the things I’m excited to grow my knowledge in while I’m back in my WEB Development & Design class. If this doesn’t interest you, try checking out some of my other posts and works.

In truth, I love the WEB Development & Design field. It’s not only large but also diverse, with jobs ranging from Graphic Designers to Software Engineers to Programmers and Game Developers, all dealing with different aspects of coding and producing different products. The versatility of coders and their ability to create art or AI by simply writing in Front-end or Back-end languages fascinated me and, ultimately, was the reason why I joined DC-Tech’s WEB Development & Design program was so that I also could learn to write and program in those languages. Now, after being in this program for 2 years and going on the third, I can happily say that I’ve learned a lot and have plenty more to learn. So, with the start of the new school year, here are aspects of the program that I wish to either further my knowledge of or learn about for the first time.

WEB Development & Design – The Digital Police

I got to learn more about coding and the different jobs I could go into after my time at DC-Tech (and college) I decided that my career choice would be to become a Cyber Security Specialist. Cyber Security Specialists can be thought of as the protectors of online data or code. If you need a visual of what they do, think of any movie with a hacker that breaks into firewalls or steals information from some big corporation, Cyber Security Specialists are the people who protect that information and stop those cyber criminals from breaking in by being knowledgeable about HOW they themselves would break in.

Cyber Security Specialists are, in my opinion, the digital police of the online world. As we move to modernize the world and turn everything digital, the need for cyber specialists is ever present, organizations and the government alike need knowledgeable coders to protect our private information and classified data. Just thinking about it makes me excited! I get to learn how to stop hackers practically by being one myself, like some superhero vigilante straight from a comic. Learning how to set up firewalls and tear them down, how to create viruses and how to prevent them, and how to protect sensitive information while being able to find cybercriminals. I’m excited to learn all that I can about becoming a Cyber Security Specialist and all that entails…and perhaps a few skills that it doesn’t.

WEB Development & Design – Animation Creation

Animating, or being an animator, doesn’t necessarily pertain to or benefit the learning of my chosen career path, but it is still a skill I plan to develop. Animating has nothing to do with protecting information and has less to do with the coding/development side of WEB and more with the Design/drawing side, though it is still quite possible to make an animation using code alone. It has been something I’ve been interested in for a time so I took the liberty of teaching myself how to animate using Adobe Animate.

After watching many videos and finding the best strategy of animation that works for me, eventually, about 4 months into the project, I created a thirty-second stick-figure animation for my mom on Mother’s Day. Now, being back at school and in my WEB class, I’m excited to learn, whether in my free time or a lesson, how to further improve my animation skills and create interesting, awe-inspiring, or even funny artworks to show to my class or even put on my portfolio. The learning process might be tedious but I’m ecstatic all the same. With the resources at my disposal, I hope to grow my skills in animation.

WEB Development & Design – Colorful Education

Something that may be hard to understand is my excitement to learn about colors. Sounds childish, right? Well, turns out, colors, and more importantly, knowing how to use them, is a pretty important skill when creating a portfolio, logo, or editing a photo for a client. The career I’m shooting for might be in cybersecurity but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to entertain my more creative side once in a while.

Different colors, as you may or may not already know, elicit different feelings and reactions out of people. Ever notice that many of the more well-known restaurants (McDonald’s, Popeye’s, Burger King) all have some sort of orange in their logo? Orange is a high-energy, optimistic color. Restaurants, especially fast-food restaurants, use orange to make you feel happy and content even though they are serving less than nutritious food.

That’s just so cool! Color has such a subconscious effect on us that most doubt its significance unless they research or see it for themselves. I simply cannot wait to get to it. I’m so excited to be back in WEB Development & Design!
